Angels Foster Network and radio station FM 94.9

More often than anyone can bear to imagine, children are abused or neglected and taken into government custody for their safety. Once a child is in protective custody, the child will most likely be placed into a foster care system. In San Diego, these are county-licensed foster homes, where a child is cared for in a family setting, attends school, and has visits with his or her natural family.

Foster parents are typically paid about $400 a month to care for a child; this is intended to cover basic living expenses like food, clothing, transportation, and shelter. At present there are some 4,500 foster children in San Diego County, with at least 1,000 of those children are between birth and three years of age.

Sadly, most of these children are bounced from one foster home to another, never finding a permanent placement. This instability can cause permanent damage to infants and toddlers who are just learning to bond and attach, and the argument can be made there is only so much the county system, or any governmental system can do, especially in our current era of budget cuts, deficits, and a concern among some Americans about the need for some government programs.

Enter the Angels Foster Family Network. The Angels Foster Family Network is a non-profit, licensed foster family agency, specializing in placing infants and toddlers with families in San Diego County.

The Angels Foster Family Network is hosting an upcoming golf fundraiser, the first-ever Birdies “fore” Foster Babies tournament on Monday August 2nd at the Morgan Run Golf Course in Rancho Santa Fe, running from 1pm to 7pm.

Allison Andrews, a board member and active volunteer with the Angels Foster Family Network, joins us on this edition of Living Better In San Diego to talk more about the non-profit and the upcoming Birdies “fore” Foster Babies fundraiser.

Even if you can’t make it to the tournament or you just want to donate, you can download a Birdie Pledge Card (pictured below), or call _ at (619) _ for more information.  Download a PDF file for the event HERE
